Safety Ratings
Confirming the LHRC model’s predictions, participants judged the parking lot with the greatest illuminance uniformity and second highest average illuminance level (Lot 2) to be the safest parking lot, topping their perceived safety rating for a low illuminance uniformity site (Lot 1) that also happened to have the highest mean illuminance level in the sample (Figure 5).
Figure 5. Lighting characteristics and participants’ perceived safety ratings for the five sites used in the field experiment. Abbreviations: HPS (high-pressure sodium), LED (light-emitting diode), MH (metal halide).
